There’s a limited choice of places to eat out in the village but a huge choice if you don’t mind a short drive!! The places marked with a ❤️ I’ve been to and loved it. The ones without I haven’t tried yet!! Please do and let me know how you get on? Any new finds I can add to the list.

❤️The Fisherman’s Return
Is a 300 year old brick and flint free house in the centre of the village. They serve up to 5 real ales and freshly prepared food!! Dogs are most welcome!!
❤️The Highwayman at Hermanus
With its distinctive thatched pastel roundhouses Hermanus has a fantastic view over Winterton valley and out to sea. There’s a choice of bar meals or you can dine in the Highwayman restaurant. The food is freshly prepared and reasonably priced. It’s dog friendly in the large dining room but not in the lovely small dining space overlooking the dunes. Great for an early evening drink as the view is amazing!!
❤️Poppy’s Tea room
It’s situated inside the village post office and is named after the in-house dog who is often found sleeping by the magazines. Very dog friendly and a terrific place to come for breakfast or lunch. When the weather is good there is a lovely outside patio to enjoy the sunshine. Open 9am – 3 pm closes earlier on Sundays.

Dog friendly cafe by the beach serving hot meals to eat in or take away as well as hot drinks, ice creams, pastries and cakes. Open daily 9am – 4pm. I have been but wasn’t that impressed and definitely not with the coffee!! I much prefer Poppy’s in the village.
❤️The Nelson Head, Horsey
The Nelson Head pub in the village of Horsey is a free house with a huge open fire in the bar area. In the summer you can sit outside in the large field opposite. There’s a full menu and daily specials. Huge portions!! Very dog friendly!! A firm favourite of mine!! From the pub you can walk to Horsey Windpump or the beach to see the seals.
❤️Poppylands, Horsey
A 1940’s themed tea room offering an immersive atmosphere where the staff dress in Second World War attire. Cakes, traditional lunches and a popular Sunday carvery are on offer. Dog friendly and a true nostalgic trip out!!
❤️ National Trust Cafe
Seating for the cafe, which sells hot drinks, cakes and sandwiches, is outside overlooking the Windpump and Staithe. Beautiful view over Horsey mere close by.

❤️The Dunes Cafe @ Waxham Barn
A short drive away from the chalet park Dunes Cafe Waxham Barn is a stunning country cafe sat alongside Waxham great barn and a short walk to the beach. It is the sister cafe to Acle River Cafe. Dog friendly inside and out. This cafe used to be at Winterton beach before being lost to the sea in 2020.
❤️The Boathouse, Ormesby
Formerly the Eel’s foot, this pub has been transformed into a great waterside venue set in 11 acres of parkland on the banks of Ormesby Broad. The Boathouse is open daily offering traditional country fayre with evening specials. Terrific place to come for Sunday lunch with really friendly staff and dog friendly inside and out. Loved it!
The Greyhound, Hickling
Offering a roaring fire in the winter and a sunny front terrace in the summer, The Greyhound is a traditional village pub in the heart of picturesque Hickling. Dogs are given a very warm welcome in the bar area and there is a further separate dining room beyond.
The Kings Arms, Fleggburgh
A beautiful country restaurant based in the heart of Fleggburgh. Hosting award winning chef Mark Dixon. The Kings Arms has different menus to choose from including a classic bar menu, a la carte and a superb seasonal tasting menu.

Farm shop offering a wide range of own grown and local produce. Homemade pies and pastries along with coffees and cake on offer for takeaway plus a cafe with a wonderful menu including breakfast and Sunday roasts!

Attached to the Hippodrome Circus. Lovely cafe with great coffee and food. Discovered it by accident when the Silver Darlings cafe was closed. Have been back a few times. A real gem in GY!!

Have just popped in for drinks but it was very busy and the food looked great. Very dog friendly!!

A half an hour drive away.
A very popular cafe with delicious food close to the beach at Cart Gap. No dogs in the cafe but fine in the garden and u can sit inside the cosy little potting sheds if the weather isn’t good!! Tried the scones and they were terrific!! Would happily return!

❤️The Gunton Arms, Gunton
This ancient coaching inn set in the grounds of a deer park is a 45 minute drive from Winterton. You can feast on excellent food whilst watching the deer and admiring the amazing art on display. The Gunton Arms is renowned for its exquisite food, offering venison from the deer park, local Bickling beef and spectacular seafood. Very dog friendly throughout just not in the Elk room. Have been a couple of times for Sunday lunch and it’s terrific!! Great food with a very friendly relaxed atmosphere!

This is a stunning restaurant with award winning food and only a twenty minute drive from Winterton. It’s certainly a destination dining experience not to be missed. It’s open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Not dog friendly!! Have been for dinner and loved it. The set menu is really good value.
